Several basins without surface drainage exist in the mountainous central Peloponissos.
They are drained through natural underground systems, or through man-made channels and tunnels.
During the dry period of the year, their flat land is ideal for eventual landing of gliders.
Some of the basins are influenced by the sea breeze, others not.
In this article the northern basins are examined.
Among the rich collection of satellite photos in the net, you may find some rare jewels.
This one was found as a sample in the USGS high resolution collection. We added the legend.
It was shot in March 2003 after a very rainy period. Light blue color is snow on the mountains.
Most basins are flooded and lakes have exceeded their usual limits. The Skotini and Kandila basins are well drained, so they look dry.
